River Parishes Community College

About River Parishes Community College

River Parishes Community College (RPCC) enrolled a charter class for the fall of 1999 offering courses that appeal to students who aim to transfer into an upper division program and complete a baccalaureate degree.  The college is located in the small Ascension Parish town of Sorrento in what is known as the River Parishes region of the state, because of its proximity to the Mississippi River. RPCC's recently-expanded service area includes Ascension, Assumption, St. James, St. John, St. Charles, Tangipahoa, and Washington Parishes. The designation also includes portions of Iberville and Livingston Parishes.

After working and teaching in borrowed spaces during its inaugural fall 1999 semester, the college moved into a new campus in November of 1999. The Acadian-style campus is located on a 40-acre site next to Bayou Conway on John LeBlanc Blvd.  The focal point of the campus is a recently renovated 130-year-old, white, plantation-style home. This 6,588-square foot building houses the Chancellor and other professional support staff, as well as faculty offices and classrooms. Current enrollment at the college is in excess of 1,000 students, and enrollment is growing at a rate of over 20% per year.
