Program Costs and financial aid

In order to apply to Louisiana TeachNext, applicants must first be admitted to one of the five participating community colleges: Baton Rouge Community College, Bossier Parish Community College, Delgado Community College, Nunez Community College, or River Parishes Community College. There is not a separate application fee to apply to Louisiana TeachNext.

 

Below is a list of approximate tuition and fees for full-time enrollment (12 credit hours or more) at each of the community colleges.

Financial Aid

Financial assistance is available at each of the five colleges for students who demonstrate need. Students are encouraged to apply for financial aid through the federal government’s student loan program.  Additional financial assistance may be available through state, local, and college-specific programs.  Students should speak with staff members in the financial aid office to learn more about funding opportunities.

To apply for financial assistance, students should complete the following steps:

 

1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA)

To complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) you should first register for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov.

 

1.     Select Apply for a PIN in the left-hand sidebar

        (parents of dependent students should also apply for a PIN).
2.     Read the Apply for a PIN page and select next.
3.     Enter personal information and select next.
4.     Check the mailing information for accuracy and select yes.
5.     Select submit application.
6.     Print confirmation page.

You may complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or in paper form. Completing it online expedites the process by three to four weeks.  The United States Department of Education provides a FAFSA worksheet PDF fileWill open new browser windowfor your convenience. The worksheet is not required, but may help you complete your FAFSA correctly.

 

To complete the FAFSA:

  1. Have your 2006 Federal Income Tax return available (you must submit to the college later).
  2. Fill out the entire application (nothing should be blank; enter a ‘0’ if that is the answer).
  3. Enter the school code.

     4.   Sign your application electronically with your PIN (faster) or
     5.   Sign your application and mail it in the enclosed envelope

           (if you did not get a PIN).
     6.   Please be sure to select submit once you complete the application.

 

2. Complete the College-Specific Forms

Each college has additional required forms that must be completed as part of the financial aid process.  To find out more information about the specific forms for your college, please contact the Financial Aid Office at your school.  Once you receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) from the federal government’s student loan office, report to the financial aid office at the college.  If your SAR has comment codes, they must be addressed at this time.

*A special Teacher Education Scholarship, provided by the RPCC Foundation, has been created for students who have been admitted to the AST program at River Parishes. The maximum amount of AST Scholarships that may be disbursed annually is $1500 and will be awarded by the Dean’s Scholarship Committee.

 

3. Next Steps After Submitting Forms:

Once the Financial Aid Office at the college has received the results of the student’s Federal application, the student’s college application/verification sheets, and any other documentation the student is asked to provide, the college will send the student an official award letter. Students may accept all or just a part of the aid offer. If students fail to sign and return their award letters to the financial aid office within the allotted time, the offer of assistance may be withdrawn and the funds offered to another student.

Please note: Formal admission as a degree-seeking student is required before financial assistance can be offered by any of the colleges. After submitting all requested documents, if students have not been notified within 30 days of their award status, they should make an appointment to see a financial aid counselor.
